I’ve wondered sometimes if there is really a higher percentage of women in the trades now than in years past. Perhaps it’s just social media that makes it seem like there are greater numbers?
Well, the proof is in the numbers. Construction Dive reports :
- 14% of all construction workers are women- an all-time high
- The number of women in the trades has steadily increased since 2016
- The number of Hispanic women has grown 117% over the last six years
- Since 2020, there are more Hispanic women than white women in construction
States with the highest percentage of women in the trades are Washington DC with 17.6%, followed by Arizona (15.6%) and Florida (14.5%). Delaware has the lowest at just 6.8%.
Tech Workers
The trades are trying to hire wherever they can. I’m expecting some of the newly laid-off tech employees to enter the trades also.
Further, they aren’t going to work for nothing so expect labor rates to keep rising.
